“Bismillahir rahmaanir raheem”
-in the name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful-
Back to faaizas point of view:
Shukr eid went off really well… We had a house full and it made me think.. my inlaws house is so much bigger, but their hearts are so small and there’s never enjoyment on an eid day even though we are half the amount of people usually…its so monotonous and tense..
And here at dadas house.. Or should I say my new house… the house is shukr spacious, but not AS big as my inlaws.. but dada and dadis hearts are so big… there were so many people but it was one of my most enjoyable eids after so many years..
People were in and out and made themselves at home…
Breakfast, lunch and supper was so delicious and everyone sat anywhere and everywhere… Everybody brought treats and there was so much of blessings all around us..
The kids even had so much of fun… dada hired a jumping castle for them… So they were occupied the entire day through.. Until they couldn’t jump any longer..
No-one cared about who was wearing what or who’s outfit was from which designer company or what plates or serviettes we had on the table…
It felt so good to see all my cousins and aunts and uncles after ages…
And everyone was so warm that you don’t even feel like time was missed all these years…it was as if though we’ve always been in touch…
I managed to get all their numbers and promised to keep in contact with them all…
Even ismail had a lovely time.. I could see he was so laid back compared to the stiff attitude he portrays around his own family every other eid…
The clearing up didn’t even take that long as everyone helped before they left..
Many hands always make light work…
The day after eid, we were all suffering from a slight hang-over from the last 29 days of ramadaan and then eid day itself..
We all slept a little late…only dada and dadi had the energy to start fasting their 6 shawaal fasts…
Absolutely admirable for anyone who has the strength to start immediately the day after eid..
I decided to give kulsum a call just before the weekend to find out when she’ll be coming… I thought I’ll be the better one and invite her and sulaiman over for a meal…
In that way we could catch up and maybe find out her side of ismails whole adoption story before we finally get the courage to face the gremlins..
I dialled her landline expecting her to pick up the phone…only it wasn’t her voice on the other end…
Me:”eh…assalaamu alaykum….err…could I speak to kulsum please?”
….”Wa’alaykum salaam…faaiza bhabhi?”
Me:”jee..oh…maaf, is this sulaiman?maaf I didn’t recognise your voice…”
Me:”tell me is kulsum busy?”
Sulaiman:”kulsum?, I don’t know if you received the news about kulsum…?”
Sulaiman:”kulsums not here..she’s in hospital unfortuantely….”
