part 116

AT THE MAYYIT-part 4

A youngster…well I obviously couldn’t see him…but from the sound of his voice..began reading surah yaaseen in the most melodious voice ever….everyone was silent…

Salma and I opened up our yaaseens and followed as he recited…even though we knew it by heart, looking at the beautiful words of Allah ta’alah in itself is just so beneficial….

I once read that to read the quraan whilst looking at it is better than reading without looking at it..because in this case one touches the holy quraan, sees the holy quraan and reads the holy quraan…and all of this is ibaadah(worship)…

Truly whoever this young boy was who was reciting the quraan, his voice was beautified by the words of the quraan…he’s reading sounded so sincere, from the depths of his heart and almost every person, even those whom were laughing and talking earlier had tears streaming down….

Surah yaaseen is such a beautiful surah..it is the heart of the quraan…and we have been ordered by Rasulullah(S.A.W) to recite it upon the deceased..because it is a means of ease for the deceased from whatever is to come after death…

Once yaasen shareef was completed..it was time to lift the body…I could hear much shuffling and I could hear a few louder sobs…this was the saddest part of a mayyit..when the body was being taken away….

This all brought back extremely sad memories for me…I thought of mum and dad…how devastated I was at their mayyits….upon their demise I realised that my entire life was going to change..mum and dad were gone and would never return no matter what….I was alone….no mum to prepare those yummy meals for me everyday..no dad to fuss over me and make sure I had everything I needed..no mum and dad to put those smiles on my faces….no matter how hard it was, and no matter how much I wished I could have just a few more minutes…it was over..they were gone forever…

Mum, dad, goolam…. And every other muslim who had passed on were hopefully all in a better place…they were With their Creator inshallah…

I can totally understand aunty saabira and the familys pain…of losing someone so close to your heart…someone who was your everything at one stage is now not there……

They had to be absolutely careful with the body of the marhoom(deceased-one upon whom Allah has mercy)…it is said that their bodies are so sensitive that even if a fly had to sit on the body of the marhoom, it feels like an entire mountain was placed ontop of them…

Yes they feel every movement…imagine being trapped in this body, where you are able to hear all the commotion going on around you…you can feel these people carrying you around, you can feel them struggling to wash you body in a way that they shouldn’t see any of your satar(parts of body which are impermissable for others to look at)….you can feel the water being poured over you…you can feel them enshrouding you in your kafan(white cloth we are wrapped in and buried with)…you can feel them moving you to the house…you can hear everyone reciting upon you, crying for you, praying for you……but you can’t say a word back…you can’t hug them back and tell them you’re sorry for everything you’ve done to hurt them….you can’t even cry….you are useless at that point…you’re trapped….

the men had just left the house and we could hear the siren of the hearse moving away….everyone was still trying to process that goolam was gone when an elderly lady began singing something which I was later told is called ‘fatiha’……

She barely began when she was interrupted in a very subtle manner by aunty saabira..who put her hand on the lady’s shoulder and ushered with her finger for her to remain silent while shaking her head…..and then…a young lady began…..

note
Jumu’ah mubarak everyone….may Allah bless every person readin this with the best of this worl and the hereafter..may Allah grant you all abundance in health, wealth, good character, contentment and happiness….ameen!

Jummah Mubarak to all the lovely readers of this blog
It is so true that wen a person passes away a void is left in the lives around them but ان شاء الله that person is in a better place
It is said something to the effect that
    اَلْمَوْتُ يَجُرُّاَلْحَبِيْبُ إِلى اَلْحَبِيْبُ
Death unites the lover with his beloved i.e. الله
May الله grant us all a death with the Kalima
اشهد ان لا اله الله واشهد ان محمد عبده و رسوله
N a death worthy of emulation n a Janaazah without any bid’aat attached to it آمين

And our Allaah is so rewarding – just imagine, for each letter of quraan we recite we get 10 rewards IA! As is mentioned in hadith, (STTE) Alif Laam Meem is 3 letters, but reward is 30!!! SubhaanAllaah! May Allaah Almighty make it easy for us to recite His divine book and accept from us, Aameen!

    To all above duas آمين.
That time after we die… A very moving post, sister جزاك اللهُ خيراً. Gives us a lot to think about.
Are we ready to face munkar and nakeer (the angels who will question us in our graves)? An incident comes to mind.
Hadhrat Haani رضي الله عنه (the freed slave of Uthmaan رضي الله عنه ) says that whenever Uthmaan رضي الله عنه stopped at a graveyard he would weep so much that his beard would get wet. Someone once asked him: “You do not weep when you think of Jannah and Jahannam but weep when you think of the grave?” He replied: “I have heard Rasoollullah صلى الله عليه وسلم say ‘The grave is the first stage from amongst the many stages of the aakirah. If one is successful there, the later stages are easier. However if one is unsuccessful there, the later stages will be extremely difficult.'”. (Tirmizi)
May Allah make us successful in our graves and save us from the torment of the grave آمين.
Ps: sorry for long comment. 🙂

It is narrated in a hadiths that whoever visits the qabrastaan and recites surah iklaas 11times and then mk dua for da dead, will be rewarded as many fold as the number of dead in da qabrastaan.
(Inshallah we allah mst incarriage our men folks 2 read sura ikhlaas at da graveyard)

  9. a95r says:

Here is a beautiful dua, its short and easy to remember but more importantly its for our benefit.
Hadhrat Aisha رضي الله عنها narrates that Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم made the following dua:
    اللهم حاسبني حسابا يسيرا
    Allahumma haasibni hisaabay yaseera
Oh Allah! Make my reckoning an easy reckoning.
When Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم completed his duas, she inquired what is حسابا يسيرا (or ‘easy reckoning’). Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم replied that حسابا يسيرا means: Allah Ta’ala gives a person his life scrolls (records of all his deeds) to him and forgives him.
May Allah grant us the tawfeeq آمين.
Remember me and the ummah in your duas.
